A Selection of Other Prayers

Lighten our darkness, we beseech thee O Lord;
and by thy great mercy defend us from all perils and dangers of this night;
for the love of thy only Son, our Saviour Jesus Christ. Amen.

Come Lord Jesus, you too were tired when day was done;
you met your friends at evening time, come Lord Jesus.

Lord God, you have declared that your kingdom is amongst us.
Open our ears to hear it, our hands to serve it, our hearts to hold it.
This we pray in Jesus' name. Amen

Goodness is stronger than evil,
Love is stronger than hate,
Light is stronger than darkness.
Truth is stronger than lies.

A prayer of St. Francis of Assisi

Lord, make me an instrument of your peace.
Where there is hatred, let me sow love,
Where there is injury, pardon,
Where there is doubt, faith,
Where there is despair, hope,
Where there is darkness, light,
Where there is sadness, joy.
O Divine Master, grant that I may not so much seek
to be consoled as to console,
not so much to be understood as to understand,
not so much to be loved, as to love;
for it is in giving that we receive,
it is in pardoning that we are pardoned,
it is in dying, that we awake to eternal life.

A prayer of St. Benedict

Gracious and Holy Father,
please give me intellect to understand you,
reason to discern you, diligence to seek you,
wisdom to find you, a spirit to know you, ears to hear you, eyes to see you,
a tongue to proclaim you, a way of life pleasing to you,
patience to wait for you and perseverance to look for you. Amen.
