Sunday Circle meets Elijah
This summer, if you dare to enter the hall at St Mary’s, Dalmahoy around 10.30 on a Sunday morning, beware, look around you, be on your guard. Is there a hairy man there, perhaps wearing a leather belt, a man of fierce truth? It is Elijah the Tishbite - and he takes no prisoners! Did you hear what happened to four hundred and fifty prophets of Baal? Slain with sword. Or Ahab the wicked king? Dead and the dogs licked up his blood where he fell. Or perhaps King Ahaziah’s three captains and their one hundred and fifty men? Burnt to ashes by fire that fell from heaven. So watch out, watch out for the truth and keep the faith. For we will be climbing mountains, we will be going out into the wilderness, we will be running before storms. We will hear the hurricane. We will feel the power of the earthquake. We will smell the all-consuming fire. If we are very quiet, we may even hear a still small voice: what will it say? What will the Lord say to you this summer in Sunday Circle? Come, if you dare, and find out.
